Chi flows where intention goes
The energy flow aka “Chi” or “Prana” in a space, can be directed and influenced by our intentions and actions. Creating a harmonious environment through Feng Shui practices can enhance this flow of positive energy.
Whether we are aware of it or not, we are deeply impacted by our environment. There is a profound connection between our homes and ourselves, as the way we set up and maintain our living spaces can greatly influence our well-being and overall sense of happiness.
When we cultivate an awareness of our environment and take steps to improve it, we are also engaging in self-improvement. By creating a more harmonious and positive living space, we can enhance our own well-being and personal growth.
This can manifest in various ways, such as concealed beliefs, unexpressed emotions, complex family dynamics, and other challenging situations. Developing an awareness of what is at play in our home, and working on making changes to create new circumstances can be achieved by applying Feng Shui principles.
Feng Shui is the practice of harmonizing spaces. It aims to create balance between an individual and its environment by working with energy forces.
Some Feng Shui principles are as follows:
- We are connected to our homes energetically
- Our home represents on some level who we are, like a bigger body.
- What is happening in our lives is reflected in our homes
With the Spring season of rebirth just starting, it is now a perfect time to improve the Feng Shui of our homes.
9 ideas to improve the Feng Shui of your home
1) What your front door reveals about you?
Try this little exercise: Next time you visit a home for the first time, use your awareness and consider what the front door says about the people living in the house. Once you have met them, try to correlate what your first impressions of the home were and the persons living there.
Now back to your home: What would a stranger’s first impression of you would be by walking in front of your home?
The front door in Feng Shui is called the mouth of Chi, it is the place by which the Chi energy, aka life force is entering your home. In real estate, this is called the curb appeal.
Ensuring that the entrance of your home is looking as inviting as possible is essential and you will feel uplifted each time you come home.
Make sure to keep it clean, inviting, add a couple of plants on each side of the door such as citrus in colourful pots, a new rug etc and replace any items which are broken or in poor condition such as the letter box.
2) Revitalize your space and bring freshness by cleaning your home including your windows
You probably have heard this before, but a clean home creates a positive environment. Apart from being very pleasant, having a clean home will improve how you feel.
Dust, spider nets or not well-maintained areas are symptomatic of stock energy.
The windows represent the eyes of your home, so make sure to keep them sparkling clean to see literally and metaphorically, what is coming.
Finish by spraying a mixture of essence of orange and water around your home.
3) Creating your haven: how to transform your bedroom into a peaceful sanctuary
Your bedroom represents who you are and should be a haven, a safe space to rest, relax and enjoy good quality restorative sleep.
In the bedroom, less is more. Limit yourself to essential items such as a bed, bedside tables, lamps, rugs.
To create a peaceful and restful atmosphere in your bedroom, it is important to avoid clutter. This means keeping items stored away and out of sight.
Additionally, it is best to avoid having a working station or desk in your bedroom, as this can blur the lines between work and rest. Electronics such as televisions should also be avoided, as the light and stimulation they emit can disrupt sleep patterns.
A solid headboard in wood/fabric and the bed with its head against the wall is the optimal option, with your bed in the command position so that you can see the door when lying down.
Display artwork which has a calming and restorative effect.
To create a harmonious environment, it is recommended to incorporate colours like pastels or earthy neutrals with subtle hints of pink. These soft and gentle hues can create a sense of tranquillity and promote relaxation.
4) Bringing the outdoors in, incorporate nature in your home decor
We have an innate connection to nature as is shown with the evidence-based practice of biophilic design.
You may include live plants preferably with round leaves fresh flowers, fruits displayed in bowls such as oranges, lemons, grapefruits, or apples.
Essential oils are another great option to bring nature inside your home: consider essential oils such as bergamot, orange, pine, or lavender.
Choosing natural materials like wood, stone, or glass is a wonderful way to bring the beauty of nature indoors. Additionally, incorporating artwork featuring natural landscapes or elements such as flowers or animals can further enhance the connection to the natural world within your living space. By selecting decor and furnishings that incorporate these materials, you can create a more peaceful and harmonious atmosphere in your home while also promoting sustainable living.
5) Radiate your home with natural light. Let the sunshine in
As much as possible, keep your curtains/blinds open to let the natural light in.
Exposure to natural light plays a crucial role in regulating our circadian rhythms and has been shown to have numerous positive effects on our physical and mental health, as well as our overall well-being.
One benefit of natural light for our circadian rhythms is that it helps regulate our sleep-wake cycle. Exposure to natural light during the day can help us feel more alert and awake, while reduced exposure to natural light in the evening can signal to our bodies that it’s time to wind down and prepare for sleep. This can help us fall asleep more easily and wake up feeling more rested and refreshed.
6) Clearing your space for what matters, the liberating power of letting go through decluttering
In simple terms, clutter is stocked energy. The more clutter, the more the stagnation.
Clutter can be segmented in 4 types:
- Things you do not use or love
- Things that are untidy or disorganised
- Too many things in a space that is too small
- Anything unfinished
Our mind will come up with many reasons as to why we should keep an object, that is why it is best to rely on our emotions and how we feel about objects.
Your clutter Checklist may include: junk mail, old magazines, books, clothes, broken items, unwanted gifts, etc
There are several methods which can be used to tackle clutter. Ensuring that your home is clutter free will have an immediate and positive effect on how you feel.
7) Beyond Decoration, the importance and symbolic meaning of artwork and photos in your home
Artwork and photos may not be a first consideration when working on improving the energy of your home, but they speak volume.
Make sure to only display artwork which brings positive energy and photos associated with happy memories.
Consider the hidden meaning of your artwork and whether it represents what you would like to attract into your life. They are many options available to showcase beautiful artwork and photos in your home that you resonate with and will be happy and feel inspired to see every day.
8) From barren to beautiful, tips and tricks to create your dream outdoor space
If you are lucky enough to have an outdoor space such as a small balcony, large terrasse or a garden, make sure to keep it well maintained and in amazing condition.
Have beautiful plants, add colourful pillows, lighting, and an outdoor rug to really enjoy this space all year round.
9) Creating beauty in your home: Surround yourself with beautiful items that bring joy
Whether it is the majesty of a natural landscape or an artfully designed space, human beings are innately drawn to beauty. By intentionally incorporating items in your home that bring you joy and that you find aesthetically pleasing – such as a vibrant piece of artwork, a cosy throw blanket, or a vase of fresh flowers – you can enhance the overall atmosphere of your living space and uplift your spirits. This can create a sense of well-being and leave you feeling energized and revitalized.
