“Yoga is the most valuable inheritance of the present. It is the essential need of today and the culture of tomorrow” Swami Satyananda Saraswathi

In 2013 through my search for inspirational yoga in a quest for my mind body & spirit rejuvenation my path met with the most amazing spiritual teacher and now personal mentor. My ‘Guru’ transformed me in many ways, teaching me the importance of yoga not just as a physical practice but also as a mental process. Also how vital correct pranayama is and to allow the mind and body to let go in order to heal itself. I am so grateful that this inspirational individual all the way from Kerala shares his practice and wisdom in Cyprus.
I would like to present to you Yogacharya P. Unniraman.
Acharya Shri Unniraman is the Director and Founder of Patanjali Yoga Research Centre & Charitable Trust. Acharya hails from the Cherukulam village in Kozhikode District in Kerala, India. Under his leadership Patanjali Yoga Research Centre has been giving yoga awareness and practice classes to students in the Travancore region of Kerala State under the Health Awareness Program jointly conducted by World Diabetic Foundation, Denmark and Kulanada Medical Trust Hospital & Diabetes Care Centre, Pandalam. Acharya offers his service by giving yoga therapy to people from different walks of life suffering from stress, diabetes, B.P., asthma, arthritis, heart disease, migraine, epilepsy, spondylitis, etc. He is also a famous expert in hypnotherapy and naturopathy.
Patanjali defines Yoga as a state in which there is complete elimination of thoughts such as; Chitta(Sanskrit: “memory”;) — derived from the root chit, “to be conscious”. Chitta is the Subconscious mind. It is the mind-stuff. It is the store-house of memory. Vritti: literally “whirlpool”, is a technical term in yoga meant to indicate that the contents of mental awareness are disturbances in the medium of consciousness. Nirodhaha: is the verb that makes yoga happen. There is no direct English translation for nirodhah. It contains the process of regulating the movements in the apparent field of consciousness, channeling these movements, gaining mastery over them, integrating and coordinating them, so that eventually they become still and quiet, so that they can be temporary set aside. These in effect aid in the modification of the mind. Acharya also introduces students to Ashtanga Yoga which comprises of the eight-fold path that form the Yoga sutras:

Yama:                    Respect for others; ethical and moral codes of conduct; codes of conduct.
Niyama:               Respect for yourself; Code of conduct vis-à-vis yourself
Asana:                  Body posture; seat; Harmony with your body
Prāṇāyāma:        Breath control; Harmony with vital energy
pratyāhāra:        Withdrawal of the senses; Harmony with emotions
Dhāraṇā:              Concentration; Harmony with thoughts
Dhyāna:               Contemplation; Meditation

Samadhi:             Goal of yoga; Enlightenment; Transcendent state
