Iyengar yoga is a method of Hatha yoga formulated by yoga philosopher B.K.S. Iyengar in the mid-twentieth century. The teachings of B.K.S. Iyengar are characterized by a focus on proper alignment in a sequence of yoga postures that bring clarity of mind and healing to the body.
Iyengar Yoga differs from other styles of yoga in three ways: precision, sequence, and use of props, and is great for anyone of any age or skill level. Iyengar Yoga is also beneficial for anyone with injuries or chronic pain, thanks to its slow movements and attention to form and alignment.
Yoga is rational and leaves no room for illusions, it is aimed at all people who welcome a long journey without being deceived by magical thought.
Yoga means to bind or unite, and it consists of the practice of disciplining the mind and body.
“How?” How does yoga practice change the way you think?
The body and mind work attentively through the postures, helping us to cultivate the skill of one-pointedness (dhāranā) which paves the way for the kind of attentive awareness (dhyāna).
You must also work through challenging positions, positions that test patience and confidence, yoga teaches how to be present in the face of difficulties.
Being in the moment is being in the body, fully aware of it, aware of how interconnected the mind and body are, this comes close to the kind of integration we seek in samadhi.
Iyengar Yoga and therefore the seminar will consist of the physical practice of a spiritual discipline. This is the attitude we should take when we are on the mat.
